Kitchen Cabinets and Water Damage?
My kitchen and living room got flooded while I was out of town for 2 days. The insurance doesnt want to pay for new kitchen cabinets, they claim they will be fine since they went through a drying process. I believe this will become an issue after a few months with potential mold and the cabinets becoming warped. My question is, what type of affect did this whole deal have on the integrity of my cabinets? Are they going to be junk, or will they be fine? Note, the water damage was so severe all the subfloor in the kitchen and half of it in the living room must be replaced.

- I agree with you. I would hold out on a settlement, or add a caveat that you are concerned with the cabinets long term stability after being watered down. There is a definite possibility that they will warp in time. The warping should show up within a few months if it is going to.
- If the floors had to be replaced the cabinets should be also I would say mold and such will be a problem in the future unless they were all removed and dried professionally .
- Unless your cabinets are made of some special water proof wood, plywood, or composite, then they are structurally affected by the water. The insurance company can pay for it now or they can pay for it later when the collapsing cabinets damage your $2000 dollar set of professional cookware.
