Replacing kitchen mixer taps?
I have broken my kitchen mixer tap and need to replace it. I had a quick look at the underneath of it last night and I’m a little stuck how to actually get it off the sink. As it is a mixer tap it has the cold and hot feeds straight into the tap. I have replaced basin taps before where they have a treaded spindle through the basin hole and a locking nut to secure the tap to the basin; however my kitchen tap does not has this. All I can see from underneath the sink is the twp pipes going up into the tap and nothing that is securing the actual tap to the kitchen sink. How are kitchen tap secures to the sink and I can not see how to remove the tap to replace it. Its almost as its secured from the top some how and I will need to dismantle the tap to get at the fixings. Any ideas?

- There should be a threaded piece of brooker rod up in between the two pipes going to the tap, above that is a locking plate clamp. Pull the pipes aside and see if it's hidden behind them. The pipes can be either copper or flexible fittings. Have a good day.
- this is a weird one, if you dont have locking nuts, then whats holding it?, is it very old?, just a guess, but could the tap be moulded into the sink,if it is then you will have to replace the whole thing.

- Wheelie is almost certainly correct. a threaded rod should be behind the pipework, a horseshoe shaped bracket slides up over the thread. This is retained usually by a long hexagonal nut, sometimes with a screwdriver slot at the end.

- You will probably find the two pipes screw into tap body and there is more than likely a horseshoe clamp that holds tap to sink it is often a slotted screw driver end or a hex shape be sure to turn off supply either by isolation valves or stopcock good luck
- Your tap is fixed to the sink withA metal bracket which is a half moon shape'. This bracket is held in place by a nut on a threaded rod.Undo this nut to relese the clamp. If there are no joints you can undo to disconnect the two pipes, then you will have to cut the pipes before undoing the clamp, then reconnect them when you have fitted the new mixer tap. I suggest you connect them with comprssion joints. Turn off main water before you start, and open the taps to let water drain off.
