My Home Design

For those with an eye for designing - living room?

I need some help in deciding what type of furniture to buy and where to place it. The only thing I know for sure is that I want leather. I don't know which pieces I should go with though. I also need ideas for colour...I want to keep my existing wall colour but what else could I add? The room is fairly small. I added some pics showing diff angles...please help lol http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk139/cheesie76/IMG_1023.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk139/cheesie76/IMG_1022.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk139/cheesie76/IMG_1021.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk139/cheesie76/IMG_1020.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk139/cheesie76/IMG_1017.jpg

  1. Hello! I really like the color that you have on the wall with your front door. Personally, I would get rid of the color in your kitchen, I think it makes it look small and dark. A lighter color would go good, maybe a sage green or yellow of some sort. As far as your furniture...there's only so much you can do with a room as small as yours! If I were you I would look into getting a sectional...I really like chocolate brown...you mentioned you wanted leather which doesn't soak up stains, but its softer than black and matches with everything! If you chose the sectional I would put it on the wall with your window and the part where your railing is. If a sectional isn't doable, than I would put your TV on the orangey wall (maybe get a cabinet to hide everything, build a unit out of MDF and use baskets and such to hide everything). I would get rid of your coffee table too, much to big and bulky for your room. Maybe find something that has storage...I see you have a little one! Another option is to put the TV downstairs...I don't know what your living arrangement is like or how much you watch it, etc but we did that in our previous house and LOVED IT! Freed up the living room for a lot of other things... Whatever you do, remember that for this room, the less bulkier the better. Also try not to have too many knickknacks (I do like the ones in the pic though!) as they will just clutter. Anyway, good luck!
  2. I would go for a big pop of color, like this great red leather sofa: http://www.modabode.com/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=ABP190023&emap=13&FSID=3345 Or perhaps something sleeker and modern, since it seems to be a small space: http://www.artfurnitureontheweb.com/NoFrame/Items/035212nf.html Extra seating...can be problematic with limited space...or you could try something like this: http://www.aandyfurniture.com/product_info.php?language=en¤cy=USD&products_id=16267 I would definitely ditch the clunky old furniture--it's obviously taking up precious space in the room. Play with furniture placement too...just because the couch has 'always' been in one spot doesn't mean it has to stay there! Also, in lieu of a recliner, consider a chair which has a reclining back but has an ottoman instead. (More seating!) Best of luck!
  3. 1.I honestly advise you to make the hand rails or bannisters one colour rather than two- that is an eye sore for me - sorry. It would look fabulously in just one colour. 2. To make more space try to do away with the handrails between kitchen and sitting area, it will feel better. 3. The room being dark needs brighter ornaments-not darker ones. I honestly don't think the white doors go with the brownish tan colour of the walls. It would look fantastic all white as it will make it look spacious. You can work anything around white as everything goes with it. 4. Brighten up the sofas with throw over blankets and cushions. 5. If you move that railing between the dining room and sitting area you can be flexible about moving the furniture around too. 6.The curtains are doing a huge injustice to that really beautiful window. I wish I had a window like that! You need to emphasis its height and go for lighter curtains that reach from top to bottom, and can be draw to the side when opened. Focus around the window as it is really very nice.
