Remodeling SMALL bathroom and SMALL kitchen....?

I'm looking for tips and websites that will help in finding out tips and ways to remodel a kitchen and bathroom. Both are SMALL! I'm getting married and for a gift my parents are giving us remodeling money for his kitchen and then we plan on using any cash towards the bathroom. So any tips or website please. Any experiances too would be great! Thanks!

  1. Check out IKEA website. They have an online planners and lots of cool, inexpensive ideas for small spaces. Have fun!
  2. bathroom? light green with mirrows, it makes it calm and mirrows make things look bigger...well most things ;)
  3. try bhg.com they have a tool there (arrange a room) that lets you put in the dimensions of the room and then place cabinets, tables, appliances, etc where you want them. You can move things around until you find what works for you. Hope this helps.
  4. Measure a lot. No elongated toilets or huge baths. Read up so you know both your building codes and the available products. Remember storage needs and lighting and ventilation. We had a tiny powder room and knocked down a wall so we could have a small 3/4 bath. Its big enough for us though and we took advantage of not having a big space to put in some nicer fixtures and floors. Since it is small, you can use colors or style it a little farther out than you might be comfortable with in a larger space you spend more time in. We are redoing the kitchen in May, Lowes has good help with layouts. I spend about a month looking at types of kitchens and countertop surfaces, bring some home with you so you can see how the different finishes work together in the natural light of your home. That's really key. I chose the cabinets, countertops, paint and tile, and ordered them so I have time to make sure its right or it can be reordered without cutting into installation time. We do our own, if you are hiring a contractor allow for more time.
  5. I would suggest..for a small kitchen and bathroom lighter colors, darker colors tend to make areas look even smaller, but for a smaller bathroom a darker ceiling with lighter colored walls. For my bathroom I used a lighter tan, beige color on the walls and a maroon ceiling, it makes the room look taller. I would also recommend using HGTV.com they have some good tips there as well.
