What is a decent home design program for PC? I'm looking for something to design houses that includes interior work like wall color and flooring, as well as exterior design, but will be easy to use. Something that has doesn't have bad graphics but won't freeze my computer. I'd also like to stick to a fairly good price, preferably under $100.

Want to design the interior and the exterior and have the 3D Look. Shows you how it would look when a person is walking through the building. Energy efficient home...? If you were to build a new home in the Midwest and money were not an object in the construction cost, but you wanted the maintain the lowest utility cost. Oval replacement glass for exterior front door? We purchased a home with an exterior door that has an oval glass insert. I don't like the frosted design that is currently in glass. Is there any way to change the glass ~either by completing changing the glass or doing something with the frosted design? Thanks!
Where is a great on-line site to look at upscale home lighting? I am remodeling a home and I would like to find a web site that will show me all of the upscale lighting options available. The home is basically French Country (stone exterior, stone hood in the kitchen, faux plaster walls etc.). I am looking for chandeliers, wall sconces etc… I have been to local lighting stores but I want to be well educated in my decisions. I have never been so stressed in my life! Any other design advice would be wonderful. I thank you so much for any help you can offer.
How difficult is it to renovate a home in Italy? I live in the States and I have no problem doing my own work with major home renovation projects like flooring, electrical, plumbing, etc. But I’m used to having resources like Home Depot at my disposal with a wide selection of materials, tool rentals, and design help. My question is if my wife and I purchased a home in Italy (say one with a good foundations, exterior walls and roof how difficult is it to renovate the rest of the home yourself? Are their resources in Italy like I enjoy in the States?
How sturdy is a house built with 2x4 walls? Were they ever used to build 3 story homes? I see that some basic designed homes are being built with 2x6 exterior walls. From what I understand its mainly for increased insulation. The walls do look a lot stronger, but is that strength needed? I haven't heard of 2x4 built homes falling down so is 2x6 really needed? (I'm thinking of a basic box shaped house with no out of the ordinary design that would require 2x6.)
Do you have any ideas on what houses might be like in the future? I've got a brief in graphics due soon in which I have to design a futuristic concept home taking into consideration what our needs will be in the future. But I only have to design the exterior. I also have to keep in mind that I have to make a model of it! Do you have any ideas for designs? Coz I just can't think of anything!

Homes with 2-Roofs? Why not? Sounds good to me!? Greetings, I'm just sitting here thinking and dreaming outside the box (an currently, outside my area of expertice) and trying to be creative (...and yes, also like you, I do have a real life!). * This is for homes with 2-roofs such as a second roof designed and installed just above your existing 1-roof. Advantages: 1.Sun Shield and 2. Heat Insulator. It would provide 3. Energy, 4. Insurance and 5. Maintainance Savings. It would open up a 6. whole new industry for 7.contractors, 8. sub-contractors, 9. interior and, 10. exterior home designers, plus 11. all related roof, and 12. roofing material(s) trades and; 13. their related partnerships and associations. I want to start a new type of roofing busines that addresses the issues above and that will allow me and any of those with me to do the same. What about city and state building codes? Assuming I can get approval; what do you think? Do I have a fighting chance? Thanks for a serious answer,
Exterior door trim repair. Whats the name of the decorative triangle type thing above my door. Tryin to refin? Ok my problem is I have a 1930s colonial style home and i'm trying to refinish the fancy wood trim built all around my front door. I know these are common, I just don't know what they are called. I've also searched all over the net. This trim is all white. On the exterior sides of my door there are 2 wood panels with gooves in them. Then above my front door is a big retangled piece of wood about 18-22 inches high and 36 inches wide. On top of that is a triangled type design the consists of 2 boards (flipped outward) tilted toward each other at 45 and 135 degree angles. The triangle is open with a curved wood inside and "urn" type design. Very hard to explain but I see these on houses everwhere. So mine is kinda ruff in some spots and i'm trying a refininsh. My question is can you buy these in kits and install or do you have to construct from scratch. I dont even know a name to search for. I've seen the side type board in PVC at lowes but I want a complete match. Any help would be great
Will there ever be a need for master crafters again? I was in a building built in 1883 or so in my home town with a friend who is an interior design artist. We were looking at the carvings on the wooden wall panels. He showed me how the scrollwork had parts where it went into deep curves that hid parts of the woodwork from the eyes. Those parts were fully sanded and finished, just like the exterior part that was easily seen. I was told by him that extremely few people alive in the US have that kind of skill anymore, in scrollwork the carved parts that are hidden from the eyes are no longer sanded or finished, but left rough. This is due to a lack of demand for exceptionally skilled crafters, because we as a nation are all about what can be produced quickly and cheaply with little regard for careful crafting of objects. Do you think this will ever change? Or as we progress technologically will those arts be forgetten completely?
Have your Pella Sliding Doors rotted like mine? I purchased a home that is 12 Yr old. I was told that two of my Pella sliding glass doors are rotting and need replacement. Pella will not extend the10 yr warranty to cover them. It seems to me that a life of 12 years on an exterior door is unacceptable. It would appear to be a manufacturing or design defect. Has any one else had this problem? If so has Pella stood behind the product? What did you end up doing? These doors are aluminium clad and are not supposed to need maintenance
What would you consider when designing a dog-friendly home? Imagine you were designing a home (including exterior landscaping) to be used for several decades by a family that will have dogs (various ages, breeds, personalities, etc.). Be as DETAILED as possible about decisions/consideration for floor plan, materials, placement of fixtures (electrical outlets, lighting) and even furniture design. greekman, Just curious. In your home, are you the one who handles : * mud, leaves and snow tracked in on paws? * dog vomit and other bodily fluids from sick dogs? * carrying young, injured, sick or elderly dogs up and down flights of stairs? * containing/supervising young, injured, etc. dogs? OK. Dog-friendly isn't exactly the right phrase, but it's fits in the question title, unlike "What would you consider when designing a home that will keep you from pulling your hair out just because you have a dog?" ;-) Agility Man, Thanks for all the ideas. The flooring links alone are worth 5 points. ;-)
Insulation and wall sizes for a house? Im taking high-school architecture, and we need to find out the proper wall size and insulation amount for the homes we are designing. I am lost on how much insulation I need. Im planning to "build" the house somewhere in the mid-northeast to the chicago area. In that sort of climate, how much insulation will I need? What size walls for exterior and interior? If you can help, dont hesitate to send an email, I really need some advice here. Note: I am going here because my teacher is a deadbeat. His idea of "teaching" is giving us a topic to research. Not once has he gotten up in front of the class and instructed. He refuses to answer even the simplest of questions. do NOT tell me to "ask my teacher"

Need advice on building a doll house sized Victorian home? I have two weeks to finish building, painting, and adding furniture to my structure. It'll count as my final grade in Interior Design. It has two floors which will have one room on bottom and one on top. I began to paint the top floor walls striped with purple and black paint and am not happy with the result. Any ideas on how I can fix that little problem, and also how I can make my house look more Victorian? Color schemes? Wall decorations? Something I can use on my walls, floors, ceilings, and exterior other than paint? Thank you so much in advance!

Should my homeowners insurance cover this? I bought my home 3 years ago this month. Last summer I discovered a crystal formation growing on the exterior wall of my spare bedroom. I contacted my insurance company, an adjustor came out, had to contact a guttering specialist because the adjustor had seen nothing of this nature. Turns out, back when the house had new guttering installed (prior to my owning it) they put the drip lip on instead of a guttering apron. As a result whenever it rained the water went down the exterior wall causing extensive damage. The insurance took 4 months to decide they wouldn't pay because it was wrong by design, however, since they came and did an inspection before I purchased the home, shouldn't it be their fault for not finding this error? Please only respond if you have a clue. So I paid for a home inspection for what then? In addition, what in the heck would take 4 months for them to decide on? Meanwhile my house grows mold?? Trust me I will be contacting the insurance commissioner. Yes the guttering has been fixed, paid for out of pocket. I'm not asking them to pay for the guttering, just the interior damage that wasn't seen (rotting boards and thus removal of siding to fix). I have a big issue with they waited to answer on the whole thing until December when it's too cold to gutter/roof in Kansas and we suffered an enormous ice storm which cause undoubtedly more damage that had they responded to it sooner, would not be as extensive.
What are simple sentences? I have a writing project due on Monday. My Humanities teacher told us that we can only use simple sentences in it. Can anyone tell me if I have any sentences that are NOT simple sentences, if so can you also tell me how to change them? Thank you so Much!!!! tEo The red shoe dangles and swings helplessly from the towering telephone line. Its color, a crimson hue, would remind one of blood dripping down a fearsome blade. The design, most obviously a converse shoe, kept unsullied, unsoiled and fresh matching the current “fad”. The start of the shoe brings us to the toe, white but looking quite abused, bossy and arrogant, it starts to form a hole on the surface. Scratches also line the poor thing’s side. Stiff and soiled, two rubbery and smudged sides hardly bear a resemblance to the clean even surface they got purchased with. Two, tiny, metal holes line its side, possibly showing the odd color of ones socks. The laces, swaying and rocking gently in the breeze, look worn, in-attentive, and quite frankly old. Its tongue, rather modest and bashful, hid itself away from peering eyes. A stain stands out awkwardly on its interior, looking like blended watercolors of shades of blue and red, dripping down an easel. Colorless seams, neither dirty nor clean, weave and interlace along the surface, swerving and turning; the seams go around its exterior and stop abruptly at the heel. A well-built heel, feeling muscular and undefeatable, doesn’t appear to mind the fact it supports many feet and happens to slowly develop into more dilapidated shoe every day. Looking at the bottom, the underside, insecure, uneasy, and apparently not used to all the attention it attracts, hanging in midair. It appears terribly anxious, drooping there, waiting for some desiring person to take it back home.
Architecture help? We found a perfect parcel of land and love the area but the house is a raised ranch straight from the 70's inside and out even the square yews as shrubbery and shag carpet in avacado and gold and dark gloomy cabs. I have never had or wanted a raised ranch - I have never seen such gorgeous acreage though and the price is great. How can we turn one of these homes into a WOW - is it possible with such a dated design? We have experience rennovating but only with traditional timeless designs (cape and colonial) but what to do with ranch like this? - will it look like a dated ranch no matter what from the exterior?
