What color, design, style of curtains should I hang in my formal living room? I have a carmel wall living room with "paprika" colored couches. The trim in the room is white (we're not painting it, even though we should) and the blinds are a dark wood (almost purple). I'm having trouble with the curtain design. We bought the drapery hardware before the curtains were picked out - nice wooden rods. The rod is too big for typical "pocket" valences or sheers. And with pinch pleat drapes, I don't like how the hook shows when you clip on the ring. And colors ... I found some curtains that matched the color of the couches, but it was too much of that one color. I've tried paisley sheers that had both the carmel and the paprika and even the purple to blend with the blinds, but the pocket was too small. I'm getting frustrated!

I would like some ideas on designing a new living room...? My husband and I are in the process of purchasing new living room furniture. He is currently deployed and I'd love for him to come back to an amazing new design in the room we use most. I'm currently working on all the designs [dining, master, and guest bedrooms] with great success but I cannot seem to find exactly what I want in the living room. Our styles conflict [my own style even conflicts itself at times!] he is into contemporary spaces where as I'm into "livable" spaces. I like some country decor without over doing it but I also really like contemporary decor. It's just so confusing. I would like to create a room that's functional, easy on the eye, and meets both country, classic, and contemporary styles. I don’t want a room that is just “thrown together.” Do you have any ideas? I want to paint and decorate my living room like you see in magizines but my husband has a plasma tv and an xbox that has to stay there. Design ideas (color) for living room with black leather couches? Heres the deal, I am ussually very good with color and coming up with combinations. My style is contemporary, and I am not afraid of bolder color choices. The nature of the project includes remodeling my living room, including demo of old horse-hair plaster walls and ceiling. I plan on insulationing, new electrical, reccessed lighting and sheetrock. I currently have black leather couches, maple pergo floors and white trimwork. I would like help with a paint color that will complement the leather couches. I was thinking a grey such as benjamin moore "copley gray" or "smoked oyster" with white trim. The dining room which is seperated by a opening is a "ruby red" with white trim, and the entry hallway or foyer is a light sand color which may change... So I guess what I am looking for is some design ideas or color combinations that will work for color of the walls, or if you think I have chosen the right colors say so...Please keep my style in mind which is contemporary :)

How to arrange furniture in a VERY small living room? My living room is substantially smaller than most of the rooms in my 100+ year old home. I am at a loss as to how to arrange the furnishings! No matter how I do it, it just looks cramped and crowded and boring. The room measures 10' by 20'. All I have in the room is a sofa, sofa chair, side table, coffee table, and the entertainment center. The design of the room makes it hard to turn the sofa at a diagonal, because there is a large archway to the dining room at one end, and a staircase at the other end, my front door on the one side, and entry to the hall on the other side. Are there any good design websites that you know of? Or what would you suggest (i.e. getting rid of some of the pieces or replacing them)? Thanks!!

Interior Design Question. Help with arranging my Living room!!? We have exercise equipment(treadmill and eliptical) in our living room. They fold up, but the only place they fit is in our living area. Is there anyone out there that has any good design ideas for hiding or anything with exercise equipment located in your living room. Our house is about 1500 square feet, and the layout of our living room is open. Putting it in the garage is not an option because we have our washer and dryer out there. We would like to have company over, but because we don't have anywhere to put our stuff we usually make an excuse that our house is messy(which its not it just looks cluttered with the two pieces of equipment.. ) anyone have any ideas? I am having problems because doors are in wierd places, and I have a huge ugly brick fireplace that is going to have to be covered. what color trim should I paint for black/white theme living room? I am wanting to do a black and white design scheme for my living room. The tv stand, dvd shelf, couches are all mainly black or a really dark brown that is almost black. I would like to use black and white pictures of angels in my living room. Right now the walls are a dark brown color but I would really like to lighten it up. What do you think of my room design? I'm painting my room living room Robin's Egg blue. The woodwork is white to reflect the light. My accessories will be retro style lamps, an ottoman made of a pale rattan, and the cabinetry is white, with some tables and a desk that are of a light pecan colored wood. The curtains will be the same color as the walls (can't decide if I want velvet or satin), the carpet will be a sandy colored Berber. There will be two blue chairs, and a sand colored sofa. On the walls I will have two large beveled mirrors at either end of this small room. There will be a mirrored console table under one. Also, the walls will have really large paintings. Designer suggests opening kitchen to formal living room. Afraid it will look weird.? I live in a small, 1 story house with no space to build out or up. A kitchen designer suggested opening the kitchen to the living room by creating an island with a cooktop and island fan above then placing stools facing the cooktop. I'm afraid this will look odd, like I'm running a Benihana's restaurant out of my house. When people sit on our living room sofa, their view, I guess, will include a ventilation fan. The house does not lend itself to rearranging rooms. The living room is the first room you see when you come into the house. The kitchen is sqeezed in off to the left. Behind the kitchen is our dining room. I have never seen a picture of a remodel where the kitchen opens to the living room, only where the kitchen opens to the dining room. In your opinion, would going with such a design make our house look ugly? Thank you.
