My Home Design

Dining Room Design Pictures Knowledge Base

I want to re-do my dining room. I've seen pictures of dining rooms where the lower half is done in a detailed design, made of wood I'm assuming. I want to know what is the proper name for this type of decorating. And also "What is a butlers pantry"?
Buying furniture, need room design...? Hi all :) My hubby and I are buying new living room, dining room, and bedroom furniture for our first home, which we're moving into in a couple weeks. I'd like to look online at pictures of rooms already decorated etc., to get ideas of what direction I'd like to go. Surprisingly hard to find! Anyone know of that kind of website? Like how you go thru Ethan Allen and the rooms are setup already... that kind of thing.
Sun Room/Dining Room? I live in an old house that doesn't have a dining room. I am thinking about converting my small deck into a sun room that can be used as a dining room. Are there any good websites that have pictures of small sunroom designs?
Kitchen design help!? My fiance and I are picking out our upgrades on our condo...the wood floor that we choose have to go throughout the kitchen, living room and dining room. The design of the building is contemporary. We are having a hard time agreeing on the color of the wood floor and the color of the kitchen cabinets. We are leaning towards dark cabinets (dolce) and light to cherry color floors. This will be a rental unit with good lighting. Please help! any suggestions, websites or personal pictures would be greatly appreciated.
red dining room and white damask accents? We just moved into our house, and the living room dining room and kitchen are all painted a bold very pretty red with crown molding. in the living room we have brown and tan furniture and in the dining room we have a white china cabinet and black table. i really want to accent the red walls with black and white patterns, my favorite being damask. would this look ok or is it to bold with red and white and black. i can't find any pictures of red walls with black and white damask curtains and accents. has anyone seen this design done before? yeah i wasn't planning on doing the whole wall damask just curtains and little accents, would red walls and that pattern be too much?
We are planning to make a dining room table out of an old wooden door.....? Like a front door to a house. What is the best kind of paint for that? Is there any way to seal it with something to protect the designs or pictures on the table, or would we have to buy a piece of glass to attach to the top to protect it? We are going to section the table off into 5 sections and have each member of the family paint there own picture or designs. We would like to cut the legs off the table so that it is very low to the floor and sew pillows for everyone's place around the table. How would we go about doing that? As you can tell we are amateurs here at the moment.
Designer suggests opening kitchen to formal living room. Afraid it will look weird.? I live in a small, 1 story house with no space to build out or up. A kitchen designer suggested opening the kitchen to the living room by creating an island with a cooktop and island fan above then placing stools facing the cooktop. I'm afraid this will look odd, like I'm running a Benihana's restaurant out of my house. When people sit on our living room sofa, their view, I guess, will include a ventilation fan. The house does not lend itself to rearranging rooms. The living room is the first room you see when you come into the house. The kitchen is sqeezed in off to the left. Behind the kitchen is our dining room. I have never seen a picture of a remodel where the kitchen opens to the living room, only where the kitchen opens to the dining room. In your opinion, would going with such a design make our house look ugly? Thank you.
Can you give me ideas/help for decorating single guy's house? I'm a thirty-year-old single guy. I like dogs, the outdoors, my Jeep Wrangler, autumn, good wine, travel, photography... I'm trying to integrate my "likes" into my home. I have painted my living/dining room two colors of khaki, and a chalkboard-green wall. I have a brown leather couch, and walnut tables and bookcases. I've also remodeled my guest bathroom - new flooring, hardware, paint, etc. However, I'm trying to get ideas on decorating... accent pieces, dining room furniture, bedroom furniture (blank slate right now) and my own bathroom. I need help finding websites for "bachelor pads" and masculine design (not a lot of flowery-things). I'd like to redo the kitchen with the small tiles as a backsplash. I'd like to find websites/books/magazines that show off a masculine home. Pictures are a must!! The main goals are to have a cool guy's house and up the resale value. Serious responses only... any help is appreciated. Thanks! As I said, folks... I need pictures, websites, magazines, etc. While I appreciate the suggestions, does no one know of ANY place to LOOK at pictures to get ideas? That's what I'm wanting.
Direction of Hardwood Floors? I am building a new house and having Hardwoods throuout the whole house. But they go 2 different directions. If you walk in my front door they go longways from the front to the back of the house (this being the foyer). But this leads into the living room which runs from side to side. Also my dining room runs from front to back and this leads into the kitchen which runs side to side. Is this normal, I have looked at other pictures and all the rooms seem to go the same direction. Thanks Also no designs, just normal hardwoods.
Dollshouse interior design.? Ok this is just a 'what do you think' question more than anything. Or for anyone thinking of designing their dollhouse. So my mum has a dollshouse with furnitre but wanted me to design the inside 4 her, I wasnt prepared to spend a lot of money, so I went to loads of material websites, pretended I was a company + ordered loads of free fabric samples + swatches. The wallpaper + pictures on the wall I printed off the internet. The flowers, books + teatowel in the kitchen + dining room I made from bits of fake flowers, cardboard + material. And everything was stuck down with double sided sticky tape. So this is what I managed to make out of them. Tell me what ya think. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b258/black_rose325/photographs/DSC00165.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b258/black_rose325/photographs/DSC00163.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b258/black_rose325/photographs/DSC00162.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b258/black_rose325/photographs/DSC00161.jpg
I need help with a kitchen design? I need help with my kitchen. We bought this house in January. The last ppl put light colored wood cabinets (like a light tan color), pink countertops and a navy blue backsplash. The problem Im having is that the kitchen opens up to the living room and dining room. All the walls are a cream ivory color. If I change the kitchen wall color then Ill have to change the living rm, dining rm and hall color and thats a big problem for me to figure out. I dont want to leave the cabinet color that color. I need help with somekind of design. I also have an island in the middle of the kitchen and the kitchen has stainless steel appliances and tan tiled floor. I can do the countertops and backsplash by myself but my main problem is figuring out the wall color, decorations, and cabinet colors. my email is abmurals@hotmail.com if anyone wants to see pictures. I will change the pink countertops out
Design ideas? (Pics included)? Well, I've been decorating my first apartment and I've kind of hit a rut in my creativity. I know I want some kind of rug and I know I want several paintings/pictures on the wall. Anyways, here are pics of my living room and my dining room (which are sort of connected). It isn't very clean right now but I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas that would go well with the decor I already have! http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b137/PacificoastHwy/triptoFLA006.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b137/PacificoastHwy/triptoFLA005.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b137/PacificoastHwy/triptoFLA004.jpg And that plastic shelf thing is NOT going to stay there (in the living room) Also, you can't tell in the picture, but my walls are painted already; they are a tan color. The ceiling is white.
Does anyone know where the "proper" place is to hang a family oil portait in a home? My beloved father is deceased, and I inherited the portait we had painted of him in 1987. I love the picture, and want to place it in the most appropriate room in the house. Are these more frequently hung in the dining room, the hall way, the livingroom, or in a bedroom? I don't know anyone who has one, nor have seen one in a friend's home! The size is 27 inches across by 32 inches high. Perhaps there are some studied design persons out there that could save me from an interior blunder! Hope so!!! Thanks!
Kitchen design-help? I am remodeling my kitchen. What happens is that the kitchen and dining room are an only lineal piece and I don't have any the original floor tiles. I need to change the kitchen tile but I would like an idea on how to make it look good, like separate from the other room. I was thinking in borders or diamond. I'm not sure on what to do or the colors. The other tiles are terracota and the kitchen cabinets are mahogany. If I could see a picture maybe on the web of one idea!!
What color should I paint my 2 L shape walls? I have painted a piece of furniture orange and added a tropical french style picture. The picture has a lot of orange, red, browns, and some aqua blues and greens. Rod Iron dining table with bright orange, yellow, pink fabric, (small seats). What wall color will go and make a statement? I want this little dining room to have style with fun added in the mix. I am designing on a dime.
Interior design ideas? Working with modern furniture in small condo!? I'm moving into a new condo. Long story short, it's owned by my boyfriend's uncle.... so he's giving me all of the furniture that's in there. It's a very small one-bedroom. I wish I had a picture, but I don't. It's got white walls, white carpet, white ceilings, and black furniture. Black leather sofa, black tv stand, black dining room chairs, black stools, black oriental-inspired dresser, and a black bedframe with a semi-circle headboard. The coffee table is a rectangular piece of glass over a really awesome panther-sculpture. The panther's shoulders and hips hold up the table. The only splash of color is the cabinets in the kitchen that have been painted a bright turquoise. The condo is much more modern than my tastes, but I'm willing to work with it. The only problem is.... I'm not completely satisfied with the way it looks just yet. I hate having so much white and black in a small space. I like the contrast, but it's too overwhelming. Another issue is my furniture I'm bringing with me is mostly earth colors like brown and beige. Any ideas how I could make this work? Suggestions for painting the wall another color? Or possibly the cabinets? I'm fine with turquoise but if there's another color that works better I'm willing to give it a try. Thanks!
Should I choose herringbone pattern or straight plank design for my floors? I am hiring professionals to install ceramic tile that is the hardwook plank look. They suggested Herringbone as a consideration. I am not sure if that is for me. I wonder if it would be hard on the eyes. All planks are same color and size, and the grout is dark. It is hard for me to visualize how herringbone would look in my house, though I have searched for pictures online. What are situations in which one would NOT be advised for this pattern? Advantages, disadvantages? I am tiling my entire home. Bedrooms are already tiled with the straight pattern, but what about the large family room, kitchen/dining area, laundry room, etc? Typo: Hardwood instead of hardwook. :)
More paint opinions please!? I am painting my living room. It's an apartment. Shared with the dining room. I have a large red sectional. This one : http://www.vcf.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10153&storeId=10001&partNumber=1076957&langId=-1&categoryId=4294967256&N=4294967256 It is not leather, it appears a bit leathery in the photo. http://www.vcf.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/RoomDisplayView?catalogId=10153&storeId=10001&langId=-1&categoryId=4294967256&N=4294967256 Another link to the same couch. I saw this online and liked it... http://img.timeinc.net/aolhome/i/design/su/03/10/SU0310100l_1_x.jpg The yellowish/beighish walls.? I have black accents. Black dining room table, entertainment center and picture frames. Is the yellow (above) too bold? Would it look nice? Opinions please :) I don't mind bold. I just don't want ugly. :D I could eventually get some yellowish throw pillows to pull in the yellow more.

For Indians (and desis and the diaspora, if you wish): To you, what is a comfortable Indian house? Without even thinking of how much it might cost, just let your wishes control your dreams What things make it especially Indian .... not just the building itself, but the interiors also ... Is there a front lawn? What does the entrance door look like and the entrance hall itself? Any pictures of God? Others? And the living room? a dining room, too? Do you want one, two, or three bedrooms ... and one on the ground floor? Where are the bathrooms (and how many?) And the kitchen: what should that be like ... Puja? Store room? Is there a back court with a garden? A little pool with water .... and beautiful plants around it? A mango tree or two? Play yard? Flowers? A veranda? Do you have any extra buildings on the property? Maybe a guest house? What sort of colors, designs, furniture, light come into your house? Comfortable for guests? Do you like any Vaastu Shastra plans: having a back door opposite the front door? Anything else?
