What kind of room decor goes with blue and white plates? My dining room needs some serious redecorating, but there is a display of blue and white plates on the wall that must stay. What sort of colors/themes goes with these plates? I have white walls and navy curtains right now, and while that matches, it is hideously boring.
Tuscan themed dining room and living room ideas? My house is a raised ranch. My living rrom and dining room, hallway and entry way are all the same wall basically. I painted it a mustard yellowy golden color for walls. The ceiling is a buttery yellowish color. I have a dining room set that could adapt to the Tuscan theme. I am changing my old living room furniture. What should I buy? I want a love seat and 2 side chairs only. Coffee table and probably 1 end table. I was looking on line for pictures of Tuscan decor. I can't find them. I'm finding pictures of places in Italy but not appropriate for my budget or taste. What colors should I buy for furniture? My kitchen is in a dark red brickcolor which goes well with the gold in the other rooms, since you see all the rooms as you come up the staris and I have red and gold accent pieces in my kitchen. Can someone help? it sound like it's bright. But it really isn't with everything put back into it. I wish I could show you guys a picture. At night, especially, the room look like they glow.
What are some creative ideas for a coffee themed kitchen and dining room? I am redoing my kitchen very soon. I plan on redoning it in a coffee cafe theme. I am painting the walls of my kitchen and dining room oatmeal.(Valspar signature color) See below? I have hardwood floors and plan to paint the baseboards white of some variation. Do you have any wall/decor/window treatment suggestions to break up the color? I have zero color coordination. I used this color because it kept getting my attention and because I am tired of white or off white walls.Thanks.

I am looking to buy a mid-century modern dining room table.? We recently purchased a 1950s ranch home. We are in the process of decorating and we are trying to go with an "atomic ranch" style decor. Can anyone point me in the direction of any mid-centry modern websites that might carry a dining set that is from this era? We have a few that we really like and obviously we troll the local shops and craigslistings, but just in case there's something we missed any help would be much appreciated. thanks!
Decorating Kitchen & Dining Room? I am painting my Kitchen/Dining room and using a country motif. I like the reds greens and blues. I also really like the Americana decor. Just wondering if anyone out there would like to voice their opinion and give me some colors to work with?
Question about my living room? Me and my boyfriend have a small apartment and our living room and dining room doesn't have a wall seperating it just a big opening. Does anyone have any decor' ideas to make my dining room and living room look seperated? or look like its to different rooms?

What should I put in the green bowl on my dining room table? I love the spring green color... it's not grass-green.... more like the lighter green from the crayon box. It's not pastel either... it's still sort of bold and bright. Anyway, My dining room table is deep dark wood, espresso kinda, and I have an ivory table runner with a REALLY cute spring-green bamboo bowl in the middle of the table runner. I'm stuck; now I don't know what to fill the bowl with!? I know I could always do the old pebbles-n-candles bit... but what COLORS of candles? I really am pretty open with any theme of colors but I am NOT color-coordinated-decor- saavy. As long as it looks cute with my green bowl! Any help or new ideas would be much appreciated! yay! lemons it is! i never thought of that??! see, i need to read some home decor magazines. haha. ok, thanks for all the help everyone! :)

What color furniture and decor would look good in this room? Photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/26653056@N08/2492629981/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/26653056@N08/2492628153/in/photostream/ It has dark wood panelling, and dark wood floors. The room also has bright recessed lighting throughout. The dining room would be on the far end and the living room on the closer end of the first photo. I have an off-white colored futon, a black 40" TV, and a dark wood and black small table that the TV sits on. There is a wood coffee table and end table that are also in this picture. I need to find a dining room set, and figure out the best way to decorate this room. What color dining set would work? What color storage furniture would work, if I decide to get a book case or display case? Let me know any ideas you have of sprucing up this room :) I can't change the walls.
Need some decor ideas for this red room. Pic included.? I hope you can see the pic. I'm keeping everything in the room - the paint, the furniture, the piano. I'm removing the leopard print scarf and the animal print decor (you probably can't see what little is there). What I want is something lively, probably floral/stripe, maybe french country. I need a new window scarf, would like to cover the pillows, add a little extra to it, maybe a throw rug in the center, maybe new pictures. I thought about an asian theme but around the corner is the kitchen/dining area and it is decorated with parisian street/wine bar decor. I didn't think that would flow well together. If you have any website to direct me to that would be great. Thanks. http://new.photos.yahoo.com/kcangel70/album/576460762321215386/photo/294928804164234959/1

I need home decor advice. Any ideas? I've just moved into a new rented apartment and like it very much. Before we moved in, the landlord has spent a lot of money renovated the dining room and spent a lot of time on the wooden paneling. This paneling is not to my taste at all, in the rest of the house it is painted white which looks light and airy, but in this room it is a dark teak color. I want to make this room an office so I can work at home and want to soon buy some furniture. However, I am at a loss at how to decorate this room. Should I go for an Old-English style drawing room look complete with leather chesterfield sofa or would it look to good to contrast the old paneling with contemporary furniture which is more to my taste. I'm not an interior designer so don't have the vision. What do you reckon?

I'd like to put it in my hutch in my dining room, but I also want to put something in it for decor. Not candy or something like that. I was thinking of maybe flowers or something, but I dont know how I would arrange them since the bottom is different and not like a vase, so I need some more ideas. Thanks!

How to clean an Antique wood dresser? I just recently moved into a 1929 built house, the owner had lived here 30 years and was an avid vintage antique collector. She left a large dreser/burea in the basement. Its dark wood, beautiful! We want to move it upstairs for decor, but its heavy, so we have to make sure to clean it well in the basement (to make sure cleans up enough to be in the limelight). It has a few scratches, is missing a handle, and very very dusty. I know its probably not worth anything, we just want to clean it up and put it in our dining room. I dont know how to describe the markings on the front but its like water marks but they are darker than the wood. I cleaned it with pledge and they went away, but it dried and it was back! What do you suggest to clean the marks, in case they could come off. What is a good way to get off a lot of dust? I realize pledge probably isnt a great idea.... We arent wanting to spend very much money, so the cheaper the better!
I would like some ideas on designing a new living room...? My husband and I are in the process of purchasing new living room furniture. He is currently deployed and I'd love for him to come back to an amazing new design in the room we use most. I'm currently working on all the designs [dining, master, and guest bedrooms] with great success but I cannot seem to find exactly what I want in the living room. Our styles conflict [my own style even conflicts itself at times!] he is into contemporary spaces where as I'm into "livable" spaces. I like some country decor without over doing it but I also really like contemporary decor. It's just so confusing. I would like to create a room that's functional, easy on the eye, and meets both country, classic, and contemporary styles. I don’t want a room that is just “thrown together.” Do you have any ideas? Do you know of any websites that have the purpose to design a room--not just the layout? Thanks for your advice!!

How can I decorate Wood Panelling?!?? I just moved to a rental house where we have wood panneling in the Living & Dining room. I can't do anything to the walls and I'm really wondering how I can decorate them without spending too much money since we won't be living here but for a year. I'm really worried there is going to be too much brown considering the decor I have now is brown shelving, picture frames and such. Can anyone please help!??
If you live in an apartment how do you decorate for Halloween? Should i just decorate the main dining room as you come in, ? the living rooom is down the hall, not sure if i have enough decor to put in there
Home Decor World website?? Hi there, I recently purchased a dining room table and chairs to match on homedecorworld.com. In attempting to find out the status of my orders, I have called the number listed for customer service on the website endlessly... no one EVER answers... and the message says that the voicemailbox to "internet commerce" is FULL. This has been the case for 2 weeks! I have also e-mailed the address given several times and no response with that either. Does anyone know where I can go to report this? I'm fuming because I have not been able to reach a person and have not received any sort of feedback on my orders. If anyone has had any experience with this site, or one that does not respond, what did you do? My husband and I are so agitated, we just want to cancel our orders. Thanks for your help and have a great day!

What are some good prints for a nursery, real art, not bunnies and pastels? I want to put something in the nursey that will actually be stimulating to my newborn son and not be horrid decor crap with pastels and little animals. I have Dali throughout my upstairs hall and master. Waterhouse in the guest room and assorted others in the living, dining. I had thought of Van Gogh Starry Night or Matisse Goldfish or even some of the Escher color prints. What do you think? I have some 36 x 24 frames ready to go so I am looking for popular stuff that I could find on art.com or allposters.com. Any suggestions appreciated.
Design ideas? (Pics included)? Well, I've been decorating my first apartment and I've kind of hit a rut in my creativity. I know I want some kind of rug and I know I want several paintings/pictures on the wall. Anyways, here are pics of my living room and my dining room (which are sort of connected). It isn't very clean right now but I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas that would go well with the decor I already have! http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b137/PacificoastHwy/triptoFLA006.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b137/PacificoastHwy/triptoFLA005.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b137/PacificoastHwy/triptoFLA004.jpg And that plastic shelf thing is NOT going to stay there (in the living room) Also, you can't tell in the picture, but my walls are painted already; they are a tan color. The ceiling is white.
Ideas for decorating a large, dark lounge.? We have a very large lounge (it used to be a lounge diner but now the house has a dining room too). We moved in nearly 2 years ago and although we love the size of the room we've never liked the decor. Our options are: Keep curtains/carpet and redecorate in roughly the same colours (but not quite so bold/flowery) - the cheapest option Or Completely start from scratch with everything, but I have no idea where to start. I'm thinking maybe something a bit more neutral, but is that they way to go with a big room? Also, if we were to have neutral walls what colour do you paint the dado/fireplace to make them stand out? Or remove the dado and change fire surround? The other problem is that the room is very dark as the only natural light comes from the patio doors at one end. The fireplace is in the centre of one long wall but not the focal point as the patio doors at the end are the focus (due to lack of light elsewhere) Photos here: http://www.photobox.co.uk/album/7636751
What color dinnerware to get for these rooms? I need dinnerware (plates, bowls, etc) that can look equally good in 2 rooms: the kitchen (which has an island) and the dining room. The kitchen's colors are: aqua, amber/deep gold, and white. It also has some black accents. The dining room's colors are: Amber/deep gold and burgundy. This room has a lot of dark wooden furniture, and the dining chairs have a bold pattern. Should I just go with a basic white set? Or off-white? Or should I go with color? I love color, but can't decide what color would look good in both rooms. Amber would seem obvious, but I have so much of that color on the walls and decor already, I fear it would be too much. Any suggestions would be great. Thank!
Question about my living room? Me and my boyfriend have a small apartment and our living room and dining room doesn't have a wall seperating it just a big opening. Does anyone have any decor' ideas to make my dining room and living room look seperated? or look like its to different rooms?

Which of these client factors will generally have the greatest influence on your decorating plan? 1. Your client wants his dining room to be a cozy, dark nighttime room where he can entertain just one or two people for casual, intimate dinners. The room won't be used during the day. The unfurnished room has a low seven-foot ceiling, two small windows facing north, one doorway, and is 10 feet (2.9 meters) by 12 feet (3.6 meters) with no other distinguishing features. To create the mood your client wants, you'll need to A. counteract the conflicting moods in the unfurnished room. B. emphasize existing qualities of the room since they suit the decorating requirements. C. put up a false wall to shorten the room. D. have the ceiling raised if the budget allows. 2. Your client has two pieces in his living room that he wants to keep. One is a favorite chair that would need re-covering to go with the new decor, and the other is a large enameled cabinet whose color is wrong for the new decor. Which of these would be your best course of action? A. Try to convince him that both pieces should be disposed of, since it will be easier to decorate without them. B. Plan to re-cover the chair. Ask if the client will consider repainting the cabinet or putting it in another room. C. Dispose of the chair and repaint the cabinet. D. Try to place both pieces in other rooms. 3. Which of these client factors will generally have the greatest influence on your decorating plan? A. Age B. Lifestyle C. Occupation D. Color preference 4. Your client has said that he likes French Provincial furniture. What should you do before continuing to develop a decorating plan in that style for him? A. Show him examples of French Provincial and other styles to check on whether he knows styles and has expressed what he really wants. B. Let him know that you could give him a special discount on some Oriental furniture you have left over from another job. C. Decide whether you think the style is right for him and tell him which style you prefer. D. Check his color and fabric preferences to see if they allow you to use French Provincial. 5. Because of your client's job, he must live in a city apartment. He is increasingly tired of city life, however, and daydreams about living on a peaceful tropical island. He does no business entertaining at his apartment but occasionally brings other visitors there. Which one of these decorating plans will probably be best for him? A. Sophisticated city look which reflects his business life B. Barefoot and serene tropical decor to reflect the lifestyle he wishes he had C. Plain, nonstylized environment, neither city nor tropical, so that he won't be reminded of his conflicts D. Refined traditional look with one or two large tropical accessories 6. Your clients are Mr. and Mrs. Jones. Mrs. Jones has told you that she would like to see her living room done with lots of blues and greens against white walls. The only color she doesn't care for is pink. Mr. Jones likes tan, gray, and blue. He dislikes all shades of green and any color in strong bold tones. Which of these would be the best color scheme for you to suggest for meeting your clients' needs? A. Blue and green and white B. Pale blue and very pale lime green and white C. Pale blue, pale green, and tan D. Pale blue, tan, and white 7. You're meeting with your new clients, Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey regarding decorating their living room. Mr. Godfrey has said that he definitely wants a clean, uncluttered look in his home. Mrs. Godfrey says wistfully that she likes Victorian style, but Mr. Godfrey has always cringed at what he calls that fussy-looking stuff. Which of these would be your best course of action? A. Develop a clean, uncluttered modern decor to please Mr. Godfrey. B. Develop a Victorian style room for Mrs. Godfrey. C. Keep peace by introducing a totally separate decor suggestion that doesn't include either of their specifications. D. Show them how it's possible to combine a Victorian flavor with the uncluttered look Mr. Godfrey likes. 8. Which of these is generally the strongest single element in creating the mood of a room? A. Furniture style B. Color C. Accessories D. Its bare-wall structure 9. The most effective approach to redecorating your client's rooms is to A. determine the client's particular needs and meet them. B. replace the client's furnishings with the newest styles available. C. design a decorating scheme based on your own favorite decor elements. D. educate the client to appreciate and desire the finest period decor. 10. Your client is a petite, pale, blue-eyed, and very soft-spoken woman. Which one of the following color schemes would provide the most flattering environment for her? A. Strong colors, such as bright red and hot pinks B. Her favorite pastel colors, such as a delicate pink and subdued, light greens C. Earth tones, such as reddish browns and rich, dark golds D. Need help decorating apt.? I'm not an expert decorator so I need some serious advice on hooking up my apt. I'm looking for LR and BR furniture. I'm kinda fixated on the mission style furniture collection at Target, which I found very appealing, and inexpensive. I like it because it matches the finish of my dining room set which is an oak finish... it's not mission style but looks like it would blend in pretty well. My friend disagrees with me on it because she says that mission style furniture is more suitable for offices. So now I'm undecided and not sure what to go with. Would it be wise to go with my initial decision, or should I look at a different type of furniture style instead? And also, is it common for people to have different styles of furniture for every room in their home, because I wouldn't mind getting mission style for my LR, but not sure if I wanna include it in the BR. I'm a bachelor, I live alone, so I need decor that can suit me well. Any advice would help. Thanx!
Housing associations in Scotland - can anyone advise - we were told at 24 hours notice verbally we were? to get a new central heating system in. The work is now into its 3rd day and the mess/disruption has been immense. More than that my 3 year old has been in exile, unable to play/bathe etc all this time and all my decor has been ruined. The bathroom especially is worst because the radiator is now half the size meaning I have a huge square of old wall paper etc exposed. Most rooms have this. The carpet in my room is all black marks, my laminate in the living room/dining room now has 6 holes from where the old radiators were. My old fireplace too (which has now been replace with a wall radiator) has been left exposing a huge gap again in my wooden floors. Nothing against the 2 workmen doing their job - they are really courteous etc - Just annoyed at the housing association for imposing such a major works without giving us proper notice etc and meaning have to take time off. Are they legally obliged to redecorate and mend all the decor/carpets/walls etc which are now like something out of DIY s.o.s! Hoping someone can help please. Thanks. Just so down at the state of my once immaculate house and the thought of all the expense of having to start over with all the papering etc just holds no appeal whatsoever!
What should I buy for my new apartment? My husband and I are moving from his parents house to our own place on Thursday. I have these items already: Queen size Bed 2 large dressers dining room table couch 2 small computer desks dishes, flatware, pots & pans 4 table lamps wall decor (nothing fancy) I need a good piece of artwork. Kitchen comes with appliances. Here's the floor plan of the apartment. http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/2195/fp11646781340448082wf2.jpg guess I should've added... my husband and I are huge gamers. We have every console known to man. So far we only have a 19 inch tv. But, he's going to get a big screen hdtv. I do need to find a big entertainment center to display all of our goodies. Our couch is a sectional. But, I'm taking the connector piece out of the middle. I'm going to have the couch strech across as one piece. And have the back wall of the living room be our focal point for the entertainment items. Also, for the person who asked about the computers, yes, we have 1 for him and 1 for me.
Do you think this is rude? Should I say something? My mother-in-law and father-in-law are selling us their house in a few months. (they are building a new one). Right now it's ready to move in because everything is white, MIL never decided to paint. Well, NOW she's decided to paint. She's bought MAROON paint to paint the dining room, green for one of the bathrooms and she's painting one wall in the living room blue. I not only HATE these color choices, but they don't match any of my decor and I'll have to repaint them in just a few months. I think it's really rude (and so does my husband) but we are afraid to say anything because they are really giving us a good deal on the house..
Decorating Color Help? We're moving into a new home, and I have a few questions on decor. We are renting, so we can not paint or add wall paper, or do anything irreversible without approval. The bathroom is 50's-style - with sea foam green tiling up to eye level, and white walls above that. The trim is white. The base of the cabinet sink is wood (dark brown) - naturally, this is not my dream bathroom! However, I want to know which color (s) would make it look it's best. We both love chocolate brown, but I am dubious about how it would look with the seafoam. I am just wondering what colors of curtain/rug/towels/acessories to get, mainly. We could prob. add a border, too. The living room is...interesting. The living and dining room are painted a country blue color down to the chair rail, after which the walls are white to the floor. What do I do with this? What color accents? We are buying a new couch - what color? The carpet is white.
Food Network kitchens...? Decor wise, who has your favorite kitchen on the Food Network? I like Ina's the best. I like the clean classic look of the white and stainless steel with the green accents. I have the same dried peas in glass canisters :-) I also like Rachael Ray's 30 Minute Meals kitchen set. I also love orange. My dining room is orange :-) Plus, I like the colorful retro/modern look. I want to get a set of RR cookware, the black anodized ones with the orange handles...
Best colors and styles for specific decorating motifs? I'd like to decorate an office in Asian colors and styles; A bedroom in Medieval; A living room in Tuscany/Italian colors and styles. In the Asian themed office I'd like to display my husband's many swords and such as well as create a comfortable environment for the many hours we spend in there writing on the computer. In the Medieval bedroom my centerpiece is a beautiful large painting I have of a lady and a knight, in which the knight is going off to war. The colors are mainly burgundy, but many other rich colors are used. I'll even paint furniture if need be. Currently all my bedroom furniture is a medium/dark wood grain. The living room is actually a dining/sitting room and is currently decorated in nuetral (tan) shades. The carpet is multi-colored with earthy and dark tones. I have some ideas already, but I'd love to hear yours! (Oh, and uh...please don't suggest any Medieval torture devices for the decor. I'm not thinking I'll like the look all that much.) :-D *hee hee
What decor theme could I use with my dark purple velvet drapes? I have dark purple velvet drapes with a layer of cream brocade sheers underneath in my living room. I want a sophisticated look. But what theme would be good and what other colors should I use? I also have a dark chocolate brown leather sofa sectional. My Kitchen and Dining are both Tuscan Wine Country so I do not want to go with that theme again. I was thinking a medieval theme, victorian, country cottage, or adding green and going nature with tree pictures. But I am just not sure. I want a WOW room with drama that no one has seen before. I am not afraid of color. I am a daring person when it comes to decorating. I like all different types of themes(my bedroom is nautical, my guest bath is cabin, daughters room is garden overdone, other daughters is tropical, media room is um well dark grey and black with bright red accents). But I am ready to go over the top. Thanks for the help!
