Bathroom remodeling? Hi there! This is my first time so here I go... My husband and I are hoping to update our bathroom. We want to do it ourselves to save money. If we were to retile the floors and walls, replace our bathtub and add shower (we only have the tub now), replace toilet and sink (it's a pedestal sink now), and light fixtures. What would be the order in which to tackle these projects? Our home is old and I don't the walls are dry wall. I'd appreciate any help you can give us. Thanks!!!
Looking for the correct term/keyword for bathroom remodeling? I'm remodeling my bathroom and looking for the correct term/keywork so I can do on-line shopping. I've seen built-in (indent, push-in, lodge-in?) shelves for holding bottles/soap on the shower/bath wall. It usually comes in two shelves so I can put "into" the wall to save space. Does anyone know what it calls? Many thanks.
Are there any places that will assist in bathroom remodeling for the elderly in Northwest Ohio? My father has had 3 strokes. It is hard for him to balance himself to get in and out of the tub. I would like to have his bathroom remodeled for him. I want to have the tub taken out and replace with a walk in shower. The toilet doesn't work like it should, but it works. I would like to get that replaced also. They both need rails around them so he can get in and out the shower and on and off the toilet with ease. Can anyone help me in finding assistance with these needs?
Should a bathroom remodeling all be done at once? I am wanting to remodel the entire bathroom. Is it okay to just do the floors and new sink cabinet, etc and then wait until later to do the tub surround area? There is also a half wall between the toilet and tub area that will probably come down during second phase. Or is it better to do it all at the same time? Why? the tub will be replaced and I do have a second bathroom to use.
Help with bathroom remodeling? When remodeling a bathroom, what is the correct order 1) rip off the old toilet, bath tub. etc.. 2) tiling - can I put new tiles on the existing ones? 3) tiling first? or putting on the new fixture first?
Any suggestions for remodeling the bathroom for aging parents? A few months ago my mom fell down while getting out of the bathtub. This worried me. She gets around pretty good except for a cane to walk. My dad is healthy and has no problems of moving around. They are on vacation and I would like to remodel the bathroom for my mom's saftey while they are on vacation. It has a standard tub, standard toilet, and pedistal sink. I don't want to change it too drastically because I am sure my dad would be really mad. Any ideas on remodeling the bathroom for the elder?
We are remodeling our bathroom and have asbestos tile in it. How do we remove it? We are remodeling our bathroom and while we were tearing out the cupboards we found that there are three layers of linoleum, the bottom layer of which is asbestos. We can't afford to have a professional come out and do it. Is there any way that we can remove the tile ourselves? We don't want to encapsulate the floor either, we just want to get the asbestos out of there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
What are the best selections for remodeling/decorating a small bathroom, specifically, best colors/patterns? I am remodeling my bathroom in my roommates house. So I can't get crazy with the look. My selections should be appealing to the masses. However, I dont want it to be boring. I have always loved the black and white checkered floor look but I dont know if it will work in a small space. I like black and white because i think it can be feminine and/or masculine, contemporary and/or modern and youthful or mature/classy all at the same time. If i went that route with the floor i think i would paint the vanity black and possibly give it the distressed look. But again, i am not sure if such a bold contrast with the black against white will be good for that small of a space.
What is best shopping website for bathroom remodeling? When I mean best -- it would be price for brand name products (e.g. hardware). Also, any tips on what you would suggest for hardware. links to pictures would be great! We've checked with Home Depot and Lowe's and their prices for hardware are higher than what you can get online. We'll get tile from either of these, or a stone/tile store, or Costco, locally.
Help me to make a choice with my bathroom remodeling!? Ok, I already have a brand new faucet for the bathroom sink that I picked up last year for very cheap on clearance. It's color is polished brass. Now I am in need of a shower head and handle to match. The only problem is that polished brass is not a popular color and is very pricey. Also, our vanity handles are a dull gold color. I have found a color called brushed bronze, which is a dull gold as well. I was thinking about just buying a new sink fixture and then a shower one in the brushed bronze, since I feel it looks nicer than the shiny gold. But, would it be silly to buy a new sink faucet, when I already have one? My husband thinks we should just get a polished brass shower kit to save money. Would using the brushed bronze increase the value of our home at all, or should I just save money and go with the polished brass?

small bathroom remodeling project? so i'm 17 and my mom's left me to dealing with a really small bathroom we have, it's got a shower with a clear glass door and it's pretty bland and boring with a bright blue trim around the bottom where the walls meet the floor. so my question is how do i fix the ceiling above the shower? it's cracking and looks pretty bad...i was thinking about sanding it and then painting it over but does the type of paint i use matter? oh and i was thinking about using a light yellow, slate blue, or light green color...any suggestions? Thanks!
What is involved with remodeling bathroom? We got more than we bargined for when we wanted to replace our tub. The floor was rotted and moldy and they ended up pulling out the tub, toilet and sink and most of the floor. I wonder what kind of time frame and cost are we looking at to have this fixed and remodeled?
What is the average cost of remodeling a bathroom? The bath room is about 6x12. There was titlng place half way up the walls(the floor was not done. The rest of the walls were painted by the contractors), a new toilet, a new bathtub with sliding glass doors, a messager head for the shower, a new cabinet with 4 lights with it, a fan in the bathroom with a way for air to ciruclate out(with a light attached to the fan, a towel rack, a metal toilet paper dispencer and a metal robe hook placed on the bathroom door. That what was done. I do realise that it is difficult to estimated when there are other factors un-answered, but please give me a ball park estimate. I believe the current contractors are charging way too much money for a relativly simple project.
Ideas for bathroom remodeling? I'm looking for tile ideas (floor, wall, shower/tub area), countertop/sink type (granite? ceramic?), sink cabinet (wood colors and styles). Am thinking modern colors with good resale value. No doors on tub area, just shower curtain. Your input please. Not quite interested in pedestal sinks, though that's the trend these days.

Bathroom Remodeling Problem? We are buying a house, and just got it inspected. Remodeling bathroom floor, need advise, please!? We are getting ready to redo our bathroom floor. I am looking for suggestions on what type of floor to use. We are on a kind of tight budget and pretty much limited to Lowes for supplies so we can use our credit card. We are going to have to gut the floor and lay new floorboards down in addition to whatever flooring we use. Please suggest on what products would be best for a $200-300 total budget, including what to use as floorboard. I do not like vinyl flooring, it always seems to get dented, or ruined when wet. Pergo is way to expensive, plus I don't know about it getting wet. I seem to be leaning towards ceramic tile at the moment. Is a certain size square better or easier? Our room we are doing is about 10 x 8.
Bathroom remodeling? We're getting the tub redone by Bath Fitter, but we also want to get a new toilet and sink. Do we have to hire a plumber or is it possible to change them ourselves?
Bathroom Remodeling Ideas? My fiance and I decided that we are going to remodel the master bathroom (since I am pregnant, and we need to)... We are going to completely demo the old one.. tear down all tile, tear up all the floor, and re-work how the shower is.. and turn the existing shower into a walk-in closet (that has two doors, and the second door would lead straight to the baby's room) and the area where the whirlpool tub is will become the shower area... We're also going to have drywall hung, and a slew of other things happen, but we aren't exactly sure what we want the end product to look like.. we want it to be functional (obviously) but we also want it to look pleasing to the eye.. Does anyone know names of bathroom remodeling magazines, websites, or books?? Any help would be much appreciated! We need to get this bathroom rolling already.. we have until September to finish! =) Thank you all! PS: I will NOT be participating in any of the demo, or re-build part of this project.. we decided to hire.
Bathroom remodeling question?? (D.I.Y.)? Seeking professional advice from fellow D.I.Y. folks. I am starting a complete bathroom remodel, What should I start ripping out first? We will still be using this bathroom off an on if needed, as a guest bathroom. Everything is coming out at one point. But I am not sure where to start. I am replacing or getting rid of the half paneling, the lighting, sink and huge avocado green vanity & cabinet, toilet, floor, wall paper under the 3 or 4 layers of paint, ceramic tile in the shower, and finally the bath tub. What would you start with??
Bathroom Remodeling 1: Wood lumber? Another option is individual boards installed one at a time. Redwood comes to mind due to its widespread use in saunas. It does work in bathrooms although you do have to be careful about the pattern you use. And if your bathroom is too small, what you wind up with is something that looks like the inside of a walk-in closet. A reasonably experienced D-I-Y?er will have little problem installing solid lumber, but realize that there?s more to it than just nailing the lumber in place. All those finishing nails used to install the lumber will have to be countersunk with a nail set. Then you will have to sand the walls once the lumber is in and finally apply a protective clear coat. It?s a lot of work and much more time consuming than pre-finished paneling, but the final appearance is certainly worth it. Ceramic tile What? You thought ceramic tile only went on the floor? Think again. Since you are likely installing ceramic floor tile in your new or remodeled bathroom, why not use th
Remodeling bathroom? My house was built in 1957. It has hardwood floors throughout. As you can imagine, the bathrooms are very outdated. My full bath has a rose color tile on the wall and rose and green tile floor. I also want to save money in the process as remodeling bathrooms can be expensive. I plan to replace updated tile in the shower area only and paint the rest of the bathroom. Is there a way I can remove the tile from the walls without having to pay someone a lot of money to remove the tile? Any suggestions is appreciated. Oh no, demo is more expensive. Any other suggestions. Can tile be painted? I am a first time homeowner so all of this is new to me.
remodeling bathroom. Question for carpenters or anyone? we are going to be remodeling our bathroom this summer, cause it really needs it. We need a new floor, cause the bathtub is being held up by a couple two by fours i guess. And we need a new toilette, a new sink, and a new bathtub. And we are then going to put in new cheap lenolium (sp?) and we need an air vent in the roof. So my question is, what do u think all this will cost? so i know how much i need to be saving. and i will be buying mostly the cheapest i can find, but the best cheapest. if that helps and the bathroom is small, really small and we live in a trailer. Please help
Bathroom remodeling show...PLEASE help!!!? ok. So recently ish I was at my aunt's house and they were watching a bathroom remodleing show. And in the show the host took the home owner to go tub shopping. And they finally decided on a cast iron tub. So then after it was finished, the bathroom was all in black and white and the walls were a light blue with a darker blue stipe all around the middle. I was hoping that SOMEONE would know what I was talking about and if they could maybe help me find the pictures or could tell me exactly where to go. Thank you so much for everyone's help!

Bathroom remodeling question.? My husband and I would like to demolish our only bathroom and replace everything, do you think we can do a majority of it in a couple of weekends? My husband has little faith or is it just plain lazy. I Wanna tear down ugly wall tile and replace with half drywall and half new wall tile, put in a smaller whirlpool tub and replace wall tile around tub, rip up the tile floor and replace with some ceramic. Eventually, get a new toilet and vanity and cabinet. HGTV has me pumped up! I think we can do it without hiring contractors.
need help on my bathroom remodeling? I have a large bathroom with a jacuzzi (room for 4 regular size or 2 large people) anyway, there is a step from the floor and then to step in. I think I could make it look like an ancient grecian bath house. I have a pillar for the corner of the bath and I can buy a chair and some other objects and wall art, but I need to have wallpaper or stenciling that I can put on the walls to make it look like the inside of a palace bath house. Can anyone direct me to a site that can help me with that? thanks if you can raspberries if you can't lol

Bathroom remodeling nightmare? My friend referred a guy. So far he's installed a new tub with a surround. The surround had a visible scratch but he installed it anyways...so I couldn't take it back. The tub spout doesn't sit flush to the surround on one side. He just got done putting down ceramic tile....no grout yet thank god. When I came home I noticed the grount lines were uneven in various spots. I told him about this - he came to fix them. But now those tiles are higher than the others. I'm fed up and I feel guilty for having to "fire" him - but I'm trying to cut my losses.
Remodeling Bathroom Help - Wainscoting or not? I need some in put on an idea I have for my bathroom. Please tell me your opinions... When you walk into the bathroom you stare right at the shower which has a medium blue color to it. To your right is a wall, to the left (working your way from the door to tub) is a closet, vanity/mirror, toilet and then the tub. The vanity is white as well as a cupboard above the toilet... I would like to add white Wainscot bead boarding to the right wall, paint dark brown above the boarding and then accent with brown towels. My floor is the same medium blue as the shower walls. Good idea or not?
