I've researched through a bunch of real estates websites online and all the listings for homes in PA are booooring!!! Thanks Zelda, but how will college faculty help me build a home? I was referring to actual home builders that specialize in mediterranean styles.. are there none in pa? I did keyword searches with build your home, mediterranean plans, custom home mediterranean etc but no result... will those college professors actually provide me with a blueprint I can bring to a home builder? Again, thanks Jimmy but those are just home listings. I can find that anywhere. I would like to find listings that actually have advanced options that include mediterranean styles. I know that we will need to find a structural engineer to look at the plan. Please let me know if it's not a good idea to go with the student option. Thanks for your advice. Are circular homes safer then the average home? I'm not really into architecture but the more I think about circular homes, the more I like the idea. I just assume that it would be safer since it's more aerodynamic, so wind damage wouldn't be that big of a problem. It would also be safer if your building underground because I'd think the pressure would just keep it together instead of imploding even during an earthquake. Is there really something to the Cottage shape? Any other benefits?
I want to visualize my dream home, what software can be used for that purpose? I need to visualize my dream home, How do I do it and is there any software which can manipulate my dream images. Is it something about architecture anyone here guide me?
stained glass home value question: we have a colonial house built in 1928. halfway up the staircase is a small window. we were thinking about replacing it with a stained glass window. it is small as in maybe 24 inches by 30 inches. would making an improvement like this be worth it as far as home value is concerned? this window is visible when standing in parts of the living room. my general guess is it would add more charm to a house which is already pretty charming (great architecture and lots of dark old molding) is it worth it?

Architecture Computer Program? Hi, I am looking for a good architecture computer program. I design kennels and dog daycares, and need a program that has different flooring and walling options, as well as can build half walls. A program that can do office design can work as well. Also include a link where i can purchase if possible (ie: amazon, circuit city, etc).

How can I identify a stately home from an aerial photo? There is no information written on the back of the pic I found a mysterious framed aerial photo of a stately looking house among some old photos at my mother's house. She doesn't recognise it. There is no information on the picture or the frame. You may think I'm strange but I've always dreamed about a house just like this, and to find an actual photo of a house that I thought existed only in my imagination just seems weird! I'm not very good at architecture but will describe the house: It's made from sandy coloured stone It's two storey and at the centre front there are four huge full-height pillars supporting a section of roof that projects. The windows are made up of lots of smaller panes. There are outbuildings to the rear left of it. It looks to be surrounded by quite a fair few trees, and has a large rectangular gravelled area to the front with lawns beyond that. The house itself - looking from above - is like a rectangle with the main entrance on one of the short sides of the rectangle.
As a Computer Engineer, do you have homework when you get home? After your shift is over, do you get homework? If so, how often ? Also, I often here over and over again that you folks are always learning because of the new technology. Does that mean you have to go back to school for another year or so? Or is the new technolgoy quick to learn? I.e. a new CPU architecture ?

I am Think About Designing a Unique Home? This is in the future but I have been interested in the architecture and design from the Hogwarts Castle I would like to know If I were to build the home full size everything (stairs, lunch room, Perfect Bathroom, Rooms) how much do you think it would cost (Optional: Which one will be able to afford it a Doctor or Investment Banker?)
Are there any D.I.Y. or home renovation TV shows that work with small budgets or realistic rooms? It seems like most of those shows have huge budgets and/or the rooms they redo are huge or have some really cool architecture or feature (like a niche or fireplace). I'm wondering if there are any shows that show you what you can do with a small budget ($500 or less) and a "normal" room - ie: small room with four walls and one boring window. Thanks!
I am an artist (painter mostly) who loves architecture. Are there jobs for artists w/architects? I am a painter mostly, but would be willing to learn a creative trade (e.g. tile making, art / window screens, and the like) to be able to work with architects - preferrably on large projects that in some way allow for the highlight or showcase of the less "architectural", more artistic pieces. (FYI: I would prefer posting this in Arts & Humanities, as well as Home & Garden but Y!Q does not allow!)

Architecture in the UK? Hi all... I live in the U.S., but watch quite a bit of home improvement shows on BBC America. I have a few of questions about the architecture that I see... Why do your internal doors open to the wall? Here, the doors open into the room, so the door is flush with the wall when you open it 90 degrees. It seems much more convenient than having to open the door to 120 degrees, or so, in order to just walk into the room. Is there a history behind it, or a logical explanation? Why does every room have a fireplace? It seems most of the homes have radiators, as well, so I don't think it's for heating. Also, it seems that these fireplaces take up a bunch of space within the room, and are almost always centered on the wall with nothing done to the space on either side, which means that there is a bit of unusable space in each room. Why does no one have built-in closets? It seems everyone has an armoire, but with all of the above mentioned unused space, why is it so uncommon to see built-in clothing storage? I have seen all of these trends appear in old homes, as well as new...I get that spacial arrangements were different a few hundred years ago, but that doesn't explain the newer buildings. Would love to get some insight into these (completely trivial) things. Thanks all! Okay, maybe I need to clarify what I meant about the door opening... Here in the U.S., the door opens into the room, as opposed to into the hallway. However, when it is opened to 90 degrees, it is flush against the wall that is perpendicular to the wall it is mounted in. I have seen that in the UK, when the door opens, you immediately face the wall that is perpendicular to the wall that the door is mounted on, and are then essentially forced to open the door farther than 90 degrees in order to enter the room. I am intrigued to hear that some have doors that open into the room, instead of into the wall, as I have been studying this for some time, and have only seen them open the one way. Thanks for the answers so far...gonna leave the question open for a while, in case someone else has enlightening answers.
How can Ancient Architecture be so Flawless, yet we discredit their stories as Legend.? How can they be mathematically truthful yet historically liars? 1.Sumerians 1st civilization advanced culture of its day yet we call the 7 tablets of creation Legend. 2.Egypt Flawless architecture and advanced embalming techniques, yet we question their beliefs. Some how they know somebody is supposed to resurrect them and take them back to their Home in Heaven. Embalming is actually a cocoon state of waiting for they believed that their God could restore them if they were preserved. 3. Greece Wonderful monuments of Architecture; yet we call the Greek gods legends. Because we only believe what we see and since we can’t prove what they documented we call it Legend. So how could they ever conceive ancient Aircraft? http://www.theforbiddenknowledge.com/hardtruth/egyptiancraft.jpg http://z.about.com/d/paranormal/1/0/D/8/sa_plane.jpg The truth is all of this Goes back to Nibiru http://xfacts.com/x4.htm

Changin my major from Business Administration to Landscape Architecture? Ok I am currently at a four year private school and I am a junior. I am a business administration major but I have ALWAYS wanted to be a landscape architect and I am transferring schools so I can be closer to home. However, I am going stick with business administration and I plan on getting my bachelors in it in spring 2009. Here is my situation, I have heard that I could go to graduate school for "Master of Landscape Architecure" and get my masters in that, therefore I get a that nice combo. I have been advised that it is sort of late to try to get my bachelors now in Landscape architecture because I would spend another entire academic year just doing the pre-reqs to get into the program which is going to hold me back longer. What do you guys think? What should I do? Is it a good idea to just get my bachelors in business then master in landscape architecture? please give me any ideas/advice I would really appreciate it. Thanks alot!

First time home buyer, good credit 730+ self employed less than one year.? I am a self employed prospective home buyer. I will be graduating in may with a BA In landscape Architecture. This is what I have run into.. I have just filed my first year of tax returns. So basically the business is under a year old. My credit score is around 730-740. The problem mortgage companies have been telling me I have is lack of employment. Althought I know money is not a problem, I can not just promise them. Also I have $60,000 in available credit with $2,000 used. Where should I go to get the best rates? One company told me about a variable program with a 8.5% rate. This seemed high to me. What Can I do to get a mortgage?
